Hannover, Germany, February 13, 2006 - ecms Aviation Systems is pleased to announce that the testing of their new external fast roping and rappelling device with pyro-electric emergency release designed for the SA 365 was completed successfully. ecms Aviation Systems, the Hannover Police Helicopter Unit, and the SWAT team met in Hannover, Germany last week to test the EDX02 designed for the SA 365. The Police Helicopter Unit had contacted ecms a few months back asking if they would be able to design a system for their SA 365, which would allow the unit to perform their specific mission needs. Being that the SA 365 is fairly rare in police aviation; no such systems were available at that time. ecms personally met with the pilots and crews of the unit to discuss their needs and wishes for the system and set out to design and produce a system that would meet or exceed these needs. ecms’ forte is coming up with specialized solutions as they understand that every unit has individualized needs.

The EDX02 tests proved more than successful. The system was mounted to the outside of the helicopter, the crews were instructed on the operating procedures, and the SWAT team was taken up for the first fast roping trials. After the second set of fast roping trials were completed successfully, the SWAT team was refitted and was taken up to 30 meters for the rappelling trial. Once again flawless, both the Helicopter Unit and the SWAT team expressed how pleased they were with their new system.

Observing these and later the vibration, stability, and effect on aircraft performance tests were the German Aviation Authorities (LBA) who are now working with ecms on the certification of the device. ecms plans to have the device certified and delivered well before the World Cup this summer to allow for crew training.
