This interactive course will define controlled flight into terrain (CFIT) with the latest statistics and challenges in regards to wire strikes, obstacles, and terrain avoidance. Participants will be guided through a real-world Federal Aviation Administration CFIT case, using the latest helicopter terrain awareness and warning (HTAWS) system technology through a demo. All attendees will be given a demo CD to reenact their own known CFIT test scenarios with Sandel’s HeliTAWS technology.

Instructors
As chief pilot, Jim Slattery oversees and manages all of Sandel Avionics’ flight operations and provid
es tactical oversight by ensuring that procedures for operational control are followed. He acts as a test pilot/pilot for developmental and certification flight testing of company products and demonstration flights for potential and current customers. In addition to his pilot duties, Jim manages all modification projects that upgrade and enable aircraft to be used as a test bed for avionics development projects. With Jim’s extensive background and experience, he serves as a subject matter expert in flight operations and works closely with the CEO and executive management by performing software verification testing and technical writing for the engineering department
As director of technical sales, Jerry Henry manages all inside and outside sales for Sandel Avionics. D
uring his time at Sandel, he has acted as director of sales and marketing and led the technical support group. Prior to Sandel, Jerry worked in sales and managed the OEM Technical Support Labs, lab staff, and customer support staff at Avidyne Corporation
