The Business Case for Safety
Wednesday, March 6 | | 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm
Las Vegas Convention Center, North Hall, Room N259
Safety Management Track
Dr. Eherts will further the business case argument for safety investments by discussing potential effects on stock price and market capitalization in addition to the recent advances in return on investment (ROI) calculations for safety. He will present macro case studies, followed by traditional cost-benefit calculations for individual investments using the ROHSEI tool but focusing on tool control system advancements. Case studies and interactive Q&A will reinforce the learning objectives.
Attendees will better understand the value of safety initiatives (including but not limited to tool control) and how to “sell” investments in these programs to their management. Copies of the software to calculate ROI and payback will be made available at no cost.
Dr. David Eherts joined Sikorsky as vice president and chief safety officer in 2006. He heads a number of departments including EHS, Medical, Aviation & Product Safety, Government & Plant Security and Fire Rescue. He has worked for more than 30 years holding various safety-related positions at Merck, sanofi-aventis, Purdue Pharmaceuticals, and Sikorsky. He is on advisory boards for Mercer-ORC’s Executive Business Issues Forum and CAE Flight Training, and on the board of directors for various nongovernmental organizations, including Occupational Knowledge International and Soundwaters.
