Chief Warrant Officer David S. Williams, an Army Apache Helicopter Pilot, was shot down over Baghdad during the initial U.S. invasion of Iraq. He survived the crash landing, escaped into the darkness, and evaded capture for 45 grueling minutes before being taken hostage by an angry mob of mercenaries. He was then delivered into the hands of the Iraqi Revolutionary Guard who shuffled him from prison to prison, until he was rescued by the U.S. Marines, on April 13 2003.
