The first U.S. asset to arrive on scene to Haiti after the earthquake remains engaged in Haitian relief operations.

Alexandria, VA – Aero Ambulancia, an international member of the Association of Air Medical Services, reports it has mobilized its fleet of four fully medically staffed and equipped helicopters to provide disaster-relief assistance to the people of Haiti following the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck the island on Tuesday.

HANKSVILLE, Wayne County, UT (Desert News) — Helicopters were used to rescue stranded hikers from the Robber's Roost area just outside Hanksville after the hikers spent a night on the mountain.

Palm Springs, CA (The Desert Sun) - Mountain rescue workers airlifted a hiker from the top of Mount San Jacinto near the Palm Springs Aerial Tram's mountain station.

On 11-21-09 at about 9:54 am, the Sheriff's helicopter "Henry-1" was paged out for a "diver in distress" in the ocean in Gualala.  The diver was reportedly swept out to sea and had been unable to swim back to shore due to the strong rip current and heavy surf.

Weatherford Democrat - Texas - A mother and two children were taken by ambulance to Metroplex hospitals in serious condition, while a third child in critical condition was transported by helicopter, following a major accident outside the city fire department’s headquarters Thursday.  The collision occurred at approximately 11 a.m. at the intersection of South Alamo and West Oak Streets, within 50 feet of Weatherford Fire Station No. 1.
 

Barron News Shield - Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - A Woodville motorcyclist was airlifted to Regents Hospital in the Twin Cities Thursday after crashing in the town of Vance Creek.  The Barron County Sheriff's Department received a call at 10:04 p.m. May 28 in regard to a motorcycle accident near 552 Cty. Hwy. A. Deputies, Clear Lake ambulance, Prairie Farm first responders and a LifeLink helicopter all responded to the scene.  Upon arrival, Frederick Niebergall II, 32, was found about 25 feet off of the roadway.

Sauk Prairie Eagle - Wisconsin - A man was taken from the scene of a rollover accident that occurred shortly after noon Friday to a Madison hospital by Med Flight.  Firefighters at the scene of the accident used the Jaws of Life to pry the injured man from a small pickup truck that was on its side in the intersection of Highways 12 and PF.

Mercery News - DALY CITY, CA - A California Highway Patrol helicopter has rescued an injured paraglider from a San Mateo County beach.  The CHP says the unnamed paraglider hit a cliff Wednesday about 200 feet above Mussel Rock Beach and was stranded on a 2-foot ledge that was not accessible by rescue workers from the ground.  An officer was lowered from the helicopter, and the injured paraglider was hoisted up. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with moderate back injuries.

Spartanburg SC News - Those in need of emergency medical care in the future will surely be seeking the kind of confidence displayed this week by aspiring emergency medical technician Ona Tate.  Tate is one of 13 students in Angie Colbert's EMT training course this spring as part of Spartanburg Community College's continuing education program. On Monday night, the class was treated to a unique training exercise: Following an hour of classroom instruction about helicopter landing-zone safety, the Regional One helicopter circled overhead before landing in the parking lot at SCC's Cherokee County campus.

MercuryNews - Lafayette, California - All lanes have opened following a solo vehicle accident reported shortly before 9 p.m. on westbound Highway 24 east of Acalanes Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.  A sports utility vehicle overturned with an infant along with a man and woman inside, according to the CHP. A helicopter landed to transport the victims, blocking all westbound lanes of traffic.

FARMINGTON, New Mexico (KRQE) - A helicopter helped rescue a missing canoeist in northern New Mexico on Monday.  Jackie Dunning had been missing since Saturday, after he was thrown from a canoe when it hit rough water on the San Juan River.  Dunning was spotted on a beach waving an orange shirt at a state police helicopter around 12:30 p.m. Monday.

dailypress.com - A Coast Guard helicopter has evacuated a crewman suffering from chest pains and numbness in his right arm from a cargo freighter 40 miles off the coast of North Carolina.  The Coast Guard said the medical evacuation of the 50-year-old crewman occurred about 10:15 a.m. Friday from the 725-foot cargo freighter Cape May.  The helicopter's pilot, Lt. William Coty, said it was evident the man needed medical attention, and he was happy he could help him out.

PeterboroughToday - Evening Telegraph - A horrific head-on crash between a car and a double-decker bus on the A47 near Thorney left thirteen bus passengers injured (three seriously) and the driver of the car dead.  The road was closed for more than eight hours on Thursday morning (28 May) and, in total, three fire crews, both Anglia One and Two air ambulances, emergency medical charity Magpas's helicopter, six ambulances and several police officers dealt with the rescue operation.

Evening Express - A major rescue operation was launched after a climber plunged 60ft down a cliff at Findon.  An RAF helicopter, lifeboats, police teams and ambulance crews were all scrambled to the cliff.  The rescue team found the injured man at the cliffs after a fellow climber raised the alarm.  Once located, the crew of a rescue helicopter winched the injured climber aboard the aircraft before flying him to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, arriving around 10pm.

BBC - Three canoeists were saved by a fishing boat after being in the sea for half an hour after capsizing.  A 999 call was made from on shore and coastguards asked the fishing boat Stingray to pick up the men.  A light aircraft circled overhead as the trio were brought ashore and then airlifted to hospital by helicopter to be treated for hypothermia.  The RAF Sea King helicopter based at nearby Valley had two further call-outs on Thursday.

Baldwin City Signal - William L. Harris, 17, Wellsville, remains in Kansas University Hospital today where he was taken by helicopter ambulance after being hit by a car Thursday evening. Police Chief Mike McKenna said Harris is in good condition.  “He’s doing fine,” said McKenna. “He’s going to be in the hospital a few days. He has possible broken ribs and a possible tear to his spleen. More tests will be done today.”

The Intelligencer - A Woodsfield man thrown from his vehicle Wednesday night in Monroe County was listed today in "serious but stable" condition in Wheeling Hospital.  Kevin A. Marley, 43, was transported to the hospital by emergency medical helicopter following the crash at 7:45 p.m. on Ohio 145 in Malaga, which is south of Barnesville. Today, Lt. Roger Norris of Post 7 of the Ohio State Highway Patrol in St. Clairsville said alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash.

pressdemocrat.com - Sonoma Valley authorities say a motorcyclist and a skateboarder were badly injured in a collision on West Spain Road early Wednesday in what may have been an alcohol-related incident.  The motorcyclist suffered major injuries and was flown to the hospital by a CHP helicopter.

Durant Democrat - Khristen L. Anderson, 15, was airlifted by LifeStar helicopter to Texoma Medical Center, Denison, Texas, with head, trunk, arm and leg injuries, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.  Anderson was a passenger in a Buick Century driven by Miranda Dawn Lorance, 16. According to the patrol, Lorance was driving westbound when she failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck by a southbound pickup driven by Jackie Dean Cirkles, 25.

timesnews.net - Anthony Wayne Park, 46, of Bulls Gap, was seriously injured at about 8 p.m. Tuesday night.  According to a report filed by Deputy Sheriff Robert Livingston, Park poured gasoline onto a brush pile. He then placed the gasoline can on the ground some distance away before attempting to set the brush on fire.  Moments later, a witness heard an explosion and called 911.  After being treated at the scene by Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Services personnel, Park was flown to the Johnson City Medical Center by a Wings Air Rescue helicopter.

journalgazette.net - A man was critically injured Saturday in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in LaGrange County, according to sheriff’s deputies.   Curtis J. Pietrzak, 54, of Middleburg, was driving his 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on a private drive when he traveled off the road, deputies said.  Pietrzak, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle. He was taken by medical helicopter to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Pietrzak was listed in critical condition Sunday.

Philly.com - NORTH BERGEN, N.J. - A man who wanted to take some pictures from a cliff in northern New Jersey was seriously injured when he fell off and got caught in a tree.  His friends quickly alerted authorities, but it took more than an hour to find him. He was then flown by helicopter to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was being treated for multiple injuries.

The Sydney Morning Herald - It seemed like Murphy's Law when the call offering a Bellingen woman her long-awaited kidney transplant came as she was isolated by flooding.  But then the State Emergency Service intervened. It flew a helicopter to pick her up on Saturday morning and took her to Coffs Harbour Airport.

The New Zealand Herald - A 59-year-old Turangi man lost his fingers and damaged his hand while trying to free a branch that had become stuck in a mulcher, Youthtown Trust rescue helicopter pilot Mark Funnell said.  He was taken to a local medical centre before being airlifted to Waikato Hospital where he underwent several hours of surgery.

Daily News Tribune - Natick, Massachusetts - A tree worker contracted by the town has been seriously injured while cutting trees on Union Street this morning.  According to police, the man was hit in the side of the head by a large branch cut from 35 feet above him. The large branch fell, hit another tree, bounced off a wood chipper and then struck the man in the side of the head. He was knocked unconscious and had a large open wound on the left side of his head.  The man was taken by rescue helicopter to a Boston hospital.

Mainichi Daily News, Mainichi Japan - The two men -- Kingo Sawada, 52, captain of the Dai-21 Kyoei Maru, and crewman Kiyoshi Asakura, 29 -- were picked up from their life raft by a Japan Coast Guard helicopter some 240 kilometers east of Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, and taken directly to hospital, where Sawada was pronounced dead.

The Argus - A crew member on a yacht being delivered to Kent fell ill and was suffering convulsions.  A Coastguard helicopter took the man, said to be in his late 40s, to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton suffering from a suspected heart attack.
