ICAO 'Annex 14 Update' Workshop
Tuesday, March 5, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Room N263-C, Las Vegas Convention Center

The initial tranche 1 revision of Annex 14 Volume II-Heliports which covers heliport and helideck design requirements became applicable on 17 November 2009 and the tranche 2 revisions agreed by the ICAO Aerodrome Panel are to be issued in July 2013. This three-hour workshop will review the new tranche 2 including recent ICAO changes and present a comparison with the U.S./FAA requirements: the importance of the Touchdown/Positioning marking (redefined in tranche 1 and updated in tranche 2) will also be highlighted. Additional changes to the annex on a number of issues, including ‘lights’, and the associated ICAO Heliport Manual being considered by the ICAO Heliport Design Working Group (HDWG) as part of the current work program will also be outlined. The workshop will cover the ground size and VMC (VFR) airspace requirements. Dr. John Leverton, the IFHA Representative to ICAO AP, HDWG and VAWG, will present the workshop.

Heliport Design Workshop
Thursday, March 7, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.: Room N256, Las Vegas Convention Center

This three-hour workshop will focus on the design requirements related to Private Use (PPR) and Hospital Heliports defined in the new FAA Heliport Design Advisory Circular (AC) 150/5390-2C (dated 24 April 2012) issued in June 2012. A detailed review of the design requirements embodied in the new AC and a comparison with those in the 2004 Heliport Design AC150/5390-2B will be presented. The new AC-2C requires that the hospital heliports should be designed to meet many of the General Aviation requirements: the implications on the design of hospital heliports to meet these requirements and HAI effort to get changes to AC-2C will be addressed. Also discussed will be the merits of using a Touchdown/Positioning ‘circle’ marking which is included in the new AC. The workshop, presented by Dr. John Leverton, HAI Heliport Design Focal Point, will address the ground size and VFR airspace requirements.

Both workshops are open to all HELI-EXPO attendees.
