HAI reports that Kansas Republican Senator Jerry Moran is vowing to continue his push for a bipartisan amendment on the contract tower issue to be included in the Senate continuing spending resolution (CR). House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has signalled to Moran that he will not object if the control tower amendment is included in the final package sent to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Senator Moran said on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, March 19 that he will force the Senate to run out the entire 30-hour post-cloture clock unless his amendment gets a vote. Moran will also object to any other procedural moves to advance the CR or to consider the budget resolution as the cloture clock runs down. The Moran amendment now has 14 Democratic and 12 Republican co-sponsors, with Moran noting "it's not my nature to be an obstructionist. This is an amendment that matters greatly."
HAI members are strongly encouraged to continue calls to lawmakers' offices in Washington on this issue.
