On April 24 at the headquarters of the European Aviation Safety Agency in Cologne, Germany, Bell Helicopter's Brian Jenkins and Eurocopter France's Christophe Chazot presented a briefing on MSG-3 Vol. II/RMSG-3 to the International Maintenance Review Board "Policy Board." The Document was accepted.

The International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Heliport Design Working Group (HDWG) is gathered at HAI headquarters this week, considering a range of proposed amendments to ICAO Annex 14, Chapter 2 which sets out the fundamental requirements for heliports and helidecks.

From April 16-18, Stan Rose, HAI's director of safety outreach programs, was in Orlando, Florida, at the World Aviation Training Symposium (WATS). Many valuable discussions took place, chief among them regarding the looming pilot shortage in the Part 121 world.

All HAI members are strongly encouraged to contact their two U.S. Senators this week to ask that they support S. 687, Senator Jerry Moran's (R-Kan.) bill that would dictate that no towers – either contract or those run by the FAA, should be closed.

HAI President Matt Zuccaro has contacted Richard Gordon, chair of the California Assembly's Business, Professions and Consumer Protection Committee, to express his support for aviation safety legislation (AB 867) to require all Meteorological Evaluation Towers (MET) to be marked and lit.

HAI President Matt Zuccaro was saddened to learn of the tragic events that took place in Boston during the marathon on Monday, April 15. He and the entire HAI staff extend their condolences to the families of those killed and injured in what now appears to have been an act of terrorism.
