He also created the Advanced Helicopter Mountain Flying Course, the only such course approved by New Zealand's Civil Aviation Authority. Alexandria, Va. - Edwin McConkey developed the criteria and algorithm to allow helicopter-specific instrument approaches to facilities lacking all-weather infrastructure. That algorithm is now used to develop point-in-space approaches critical for hospital helipads, and it earned McConkey HAI's Salute to Excellence Safety Award for 2015.
