Rain may have soaked the ground at the fourth annual Rotors ‘N Ribs celebration in Goshen, Indiana – and site of the first-ever HAI HELI-DAYS regional event, but it did not dampen spirits or keep enthusiast crowds away. HAI HELI-DAYS is a new outreach campaign intended to supplement HAI HELI-EXPO and bring HAI directly to its members in regions around the country.

Alexandria, Va. - Helicopter Association International (HAI) reports the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives will release the long-awaited draft FAA Reauthorization Bill on July 1. The bill is expected to include provisions that would pull the air traffic control system out of federal hands and impose a "user fee" for aircraft utilizing air traffic control services.

The chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure committee of the U.S. House of Representatives on June 15 told a gathering of aviation industry professionals — including HAI's Ann Carroll and Chris Dancy — that he intends to introduce a bill before the end of June that will likely call for taking air traffic control (ATC) responsibilities away from the FAA and giving them to a fully independent, federally chartered not-for-profit corporation. Speaking to the Aero Club of Washington (D.C.), Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) says he considers it "essential" to separate ATC from safety regulation.

HAI and seven other aviation associations recently sent a joint letter to the leaders of the House Appropriations Committee in a successful attempt to convince the committee not to regulate by legislation. At issue was the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill, which contains an amendment to impose a noise curfew at Burbank, California’s Bob Hope Airport. The amendment was defeated on Tuesday.
