Fox News - The U.S. Air Force plans to conduct the first test flight of its new HH-60W Combat Rescue Helicopter in 2019 as a step toward fielding an operational aircraft in 2021 and reaching full-rate production by 2023.

 HAI on Friday, Jan. 23, joined 13 other general aviation groups in calling on the FAA to work even more closely with the industry as the January 1, 2020 deadline for equipping with ADS-B Out (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast) approaches. In a letter to FAA Administrator Michael Huerta, the leaders of the 14 aviation organizations dsof vost and available options remain significant stumbling blocks for owners and operators.

NASA - Getting around on Mars is tricky business. A NASA rover's vision is limited by the view of onboard cameras, and images from spacecraft orbiting Mars are the only other clues to where to drive it. Enter the Mars Helicopter, a proposed add-on to Mars rovers of the future that could potentially triple the distance these vehicles currently drive in a Martian day, and deliver a new level of visual information for choosing which sites to explore.

HeliHub - In January 2015, "Rostvertol," a member of Rostec's Russian Helicopters Holding, marks the 30th anniversary of the serial production launch of the world's largest cargo helicopter, the Mi-26T. The machine is capable of carrying up to 20 tons of cargo, and is still holds the record for total carrying capacity.

One possible model for future combat aircraft can take off and land vertically, and then fly like a traditional airplane. Bell's V-280, which combines a combat helicopter's fuselage with tilt-rotors, would basically be a Black Hawk that can adjust its thrust to fly like a fixed-wing aircraft once it's airborne.

Great Yarmouth, England (edp24.co.uk) - CHC Helicopters has entered into consultation with staff over proposals to close its base on North Denes in Great Yarmouth. The move, which follows the loss of a major contract with Perenco, places a shadow over the future of about 30 staff in the town.
