(Washington, Aug. 12, 2014) - Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), and Boeing (NYSE: BA) have been selected to build a helicopter for the U.S. Army's Joint Multi-Role Technology Demonstrator Phase 1 program (JMR TD), paving the way for the next generation of vertical lift aircraft. Sikorsky and Boeing formed their JMR team in January 2013, and each company has invested significantly in the program.

Flightglobal - Future demand for large helicopters will outstrip supply, according to a leading global rotorcraft operator. Jonathan Baliff, chief executive of Bristow Group – which has a fleet of 212 large- and medium-size helicopters – says supply "continues to be tight," with manufacturers' production lines "sold out" until 2016.

The FAA has published an update to a repair station rule in the Federal Register to give itself the power to "deny an application for a new repair station certificate if the applicant or certain associated key individuals had materially contributed to the circumstances that caused a previous repair station certificate revocation action."
