Senator Calls up EU Emissions Prohibition Bill

U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) called up the bill he wrote with Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) that prohibits the United States from participating in the European Union's Emissions Trading Scheme EU-ETS (S.1956).

“We're trying to do one of two things: Smoke them out,” he said of those with secret holds on the bill, “or get it passed; one or the other.”

The bill had been held up by a procedural hold placed by an unknown senator. The House of Representatives has already passed a similar bill (H.R. 2594), and both measures have bipartisan support.
