With the U.S. presidential election four days away, the latest jobs report shows the economy added a stronger-than-expected 171,000 jobs in October, but the unemployment rate inched higher from 7.8 to 7.9 percent.
According to a report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the transportation and warehousing sector added 2,200 jobs last month and the aviation sector lost 1,900 jobs. The heavy and civil engineering segment, which includes much of the work that goes into rebuilding road infrastructure, was down 2,500 jobs in October – the second straight month of decline.
