Grand Prarie, Texas - American Eurocopter, whose wide product line has become the standard for U.S. Airborne Law Enforcement, will feature its AS350 B2 from the Ontario (CA) Police Department Air Support Unit at this year's International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference Sept. 29-Oct. 3 in San Diego.
"The AS350 series has become the helicopter of choice for Airborne Law Enforcement in the United States, with over 200 AStars in-service," said Ed Van Winkle, American Eurocopter's Sales Manager for Airborne Law Enforcement. "The AS350 B2 offers high performance with multi-mission capability."
The spacious cabin and numerous modern safety features, including energy-attenuating seats and the Vehicle and Engine Multifunction Display (VEMD), were the primary reasons for the Ontario PD's selection of the AStar. Additional considerations were the aircraft's cabin size, multi-mission flexibility and the ability to install nearly any type of equipment on the helicopter. The mission equipment suite on Ontario PD's aircraft includes a glass cockpit display, high-definition thermal imager, searchlight, moving map system and digital downlink.
While offering excellent performance to conduct a wide variety of Law Enforcement and Homeland Security missions, the AS350 B2 also has the lowest maintenance requirements of any medium single engine turbine helicopter on the market today. "The benefits of reduced maintenance are lower operating costs and increased availability, keeping the helicopter in the air to support the officers, deputies, troopers and agents on the ground," added Van Winkle.
